SIMBOLOS
El Himno
En 1934 cuando recién comenzaba el maestro José María Bravo Márquez como profesor de música, durante un acto académico en el Paraninfo se oyó por primera vez, con letra en inglés un coral de Robert Lowry, interpretado por el orfeón antioqueño.
Esta melodía fue utilizada por el profesor Bravo Márquez para servir de fondo a la letra que escribió el poeta universitario, Edgar Poe Restrepo.
Desde entonces, los universitarios, hijos del Alma Máter, cantan con honor el himno que los identifica.

Alma Máter de la raza,
invicta en su fecundidad.

La bandera
Dos franjas de iguales dimensiones y en sentido horizontal, con los colores blanco y verde, estructuran la bandera de nuestra Universidad:El blanco representa la limpieza de costumbres con la que se debe distinguir la comunidad universitaria. El verde recuerda la esperanza, virtud permanente y horizonte de optimismo.
El escudo
Hacia el año 1922 el Rector Emilio Robledo encargó al arquitecto Horacio Rodríguez un dibujo sobre lo que debiera debiera ser el escudo universitario y su simbología.
Su forma es ovalada. Sobre la franja superior del óvalo y en letras de color verde se lee:
"Universidad de Antioquia", en el centro, la palabra "Medellín". De los extremos de la faja central penden dos blandones encendidos.
El áncora indica que la Universidad respeta toda noble tradición, pero con seguridad y firmeza espera continuar siempre su marcha en busca de nuevos horizontes. Los blandones encendidos son símbolo de la ciencia que se expande como fuente inagotable de luz.
